TL;DR

Context

Scintilla is Walmart's first-party analytics platform used by more than 11,000 enterprise suppliers to monitor business performance, analyze data, spot anomalies, and act on them. However, as the platform evolved, Scintilla's static, siloed dashboards became the bottleneck between data and decision-making. Users relied on disconnected third-party tools build reports and email snapshots to merchants, creating data silos and tedious workflow friction.

I led the redesign of Scintilla's analytics platform where suppliers could launch boards from templates, combine datasets, customize views, and share live findings with merchant.

Outcome: a comprehensive, flexible, and collaborative enterprise analytics workspace

The redesign benchmarked at 7.8/10 for ease of use, set the following fiscal year's roadmap and engineering priorities, and prompted the team to reorganize around the priorities it defined. In market, the boards system and sharing drove a 3% conversion rate from Basic to Charter, Scintilla's premium tier, roughly $6.9M in revenue per converted account, and 15,000+ cross-organization shares per week.

Workspaces & boards

The workspace experience helps suppliers organize boards by team or within their personal workspace. Users can open an existing board, edit the analysis, save their changes, and return to the work their team uses most frequently.

Customizable boards

The board experience lets suppliers start from a blank canvas, combine datasets, arrange charts, tables, and text, and adapt the analysis to the specific business question they need to answer.

Template library

The template library helps suppliers quickly find trusted analytics relevant to their role, business, and merchant relationships. Users can select a template, apply filters, customize the content further, and save the resulting board to their personal or team workspace.

Sharing & access

The sharing experience keeps analysis live inside Scintilla while giving users clear control over invited collaborators, permissions, external partners, company access, and plan-related restrictions.

Outcome

7.8/10Average ease-of-use rating
3%Increase in Basic-to-Charter organization conversion
20%Seat expansion among converted organizations within the first quarter
15,000Cross-organization shares per month
“This redesigned experience gives me hope I wouldn’t need to use a 3P. From an ROI perspective, it would give me a lot more ammunition internally to show Scintilla’s value and what we’re paying for. There’s a tremendous advantage of cost savings and streamlining of work.”
